On Sunday, one of the most spectacular airshows took place in the United States: Clear skies, thousands and thousands of aviation enthusiasts, all heads up. Then, during the Thunder Over Michigan finale, an aircraft performing crashed, producing black smoke billows, and the audience cried out.

Two pilots were rescued by Belleville Lake after ejecting from their MiG-23UB at Willow Run Airport on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. In the parking lot at the Waverly on Lake Apartments, in Van Buren Township, the jet hit unoccupied cars. There were no reported injuries.

After successfully ejecting from the plane, the first responders took the pilot and the backseater with them to the nearest hospital as a precaution.

The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation jointly with the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB is in charge of the investigation. It has yet to be determined what caused the accident.

Two figures were seen ejecting from the sky and parachutes being deployed in videos.

According to another eyewitness, smoke was visible south of the airport.

Mark McCulloch of Saline, aged 49, said, “It was an individual pointing at me and saying ‘Oh, my god’ that caused me to look around.” “I saw this when I was looking through my Nikon D-800 lens with a focal length of 600mm.

Van Buren Township police, sheriffs’ deputies from the county and other authorities closed roads to keep show-goers away from Interstate 94.

At 3 pm, around 2,600 vehicles lined up on the service drive at the airport and along the road to the terminal. This was one of the most prestigious aviation displays in the country.

This year, the show celebrates its 25th birthday. Kevin Walsh, President and CEO of Yankee Air Museum said that the 55 vintage and modern military aircraft on display were requested by people from around the globe just before the show started.

The F-22 Raptor Eye performed as part of the theme for this year, “Greatest of Thunder.”

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Ann Arbor) said that she was in contact with the authorities after learning of the accident.

In a press release, Dingell stated that the two pilots appeared to be in good health and no injuries had been reported. Our top priority is to conduct comprehensive physical evaluations to ensure the safety of everyone.
