Three men, who had stolen his vehicle and fled from the scene, shot Juan Carlos Cruz in the head.
Juan Carlos Cruz (52), was loading his car in Moron province of Buenos Aires on Thursday when suddenly three men walking past approached him and stole his vehicle. Cruz died on the spot after being shot in the head at least one time. His attackers fled the scene in Cruz’s car. The police have been searching for the suspects, who are not in custody yet.
A robbery took place around 5 p.m. on Thursday. It was the third violent death leading up to Argentina’s primary election. An 11-year old girl had died on Wednesday in Lanus after burglars attacked her, while an activist, who police held down, died on Thursday near the Obelisk, in Buenos Aires.
Cruz, Chief of Medical Emergency at Carrillo Hospital, Ciudadela in the province of Buenos Aires, had been unloading a AC unit out of his car when three men came up to him and tried to steal his vehicle. Cruz may have resisted, but it is not clear.
Telam news reported that neighbors had called 911 soon after the incident. Cruz had already died when the police arrived with an ambulance from Emergency Medical Attention System. In the preliminary investigation that was launched, the car had been abandoned 40 blocks away in Rafael Castillo.
Matias Rappazzo of Inquiry Functional Unit 7 of the Moron Judiciary Department (UFI for its Spanish acronyms) ordered an autopsy in order to find out how many shots Cruz was hit with and the collection of footage from security cameras around the area. The crime was recorded by a camera at the corner of the home, but the distance made it impossible to see faces.
The Moron Monitoring and Operations Center cameras also captured the suspects as they walked through the Museo Aeronautico Square, only 7 blocks away from the crime site, moments before the incident. The police also recorded the escape of the three suspects after the crime but they lost track before the abandoned vehicle, which was about 5 kilometers from Cruz’s mom’s house.
