After tornadoes, strong thunderstorms, and a series of landslides ravaged Tennessee, crews were searching for survivors, and assessing the damages. At least six people died, and cars and buildings had been ripped apart.
Officials said that at least three people, including a young child, died after a powerful tornado hit the Clarksville region of Montgomery County, in north Tennessee.
Officials said that Montgomery County entered a phase of “search and recovery” on Saturday night after almost two dozen patients were treated at an area hospital for their injuries.
CNN footage shows the tornado as it tears through Clarksville, tossing debris into the air and igniting powerlines.
As a result of the storm, trees that had fallen and other debris covered roads. Photos show that walls and roofs from several buildings have been ripped away.
Clarksville’s Mayor Joe Pitts issued a press release saying, “This news is heartbreaking and we are devastated for those families who have lost their loved ones.” The City is ready to assist them during this time of sorrow.
Clarksville’s mayor, as he searched for possible survivors and additional victims Saturday night, declared an emergency and instituted a curfew at 9 pm.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, in a brief statement broadcast on X after Saturday’s storms, thanked the state and local response teams.
He wrote: “Maria & i are praying for Tennesseans whose lives have been affected by the tornadoes which swept across the state tonight.”

Rex Stockton, a CNN affiliate WSMV reported that the roof on his Clarksville house was blown away by the storm. After the storm, he went out to check the damage. His neighborhood was devastated.
He said, “There are whole homes that have just disappeared.”
Stockton, his wife and other local good Samaritans began to help their neighbors. He said they could hear people crying for help among the rubble and were able to assist some.
This weekend, a wide-spread storm with many hazards will affect the East.
Stockton, who called the incident “traumatic,” said that he was “fortunate” to have his wife and himself by her side.
There were medics. “People were coming in from all over to assist and did what they could,” said he.
Emergency management officials confirmed Saturday night that three more people died in Madison, Tennessee just north of Nashville.
The Nashville Office of Emergency Management posted on X (formerly Twitter) that “we have teams assessing damages and searching for patients.”
The images showed heavy debris on a vehicle and severe damage to the area in which the fatalities were reported.
The National Weather Service confirmed that at least two large, dangerous tornadoes were reported Saturday afternoon. One was in Montgomery County, and the other near Rutherford town, which is located in Gibson County.
