Danelo Cavalcante has been convicted of fatally stabbing Deborah Brandao, his ex-girlfriend in April 2021.

POCOPSON TWP. (WPVI), Pennsylvania — A man who was convicted for fatally stabbing his partner in front of their children has escaped from Chester County Prison, located in Pocopson Township. He is still on the run.

Danelo Cavalcante, 34 years old, has been named as the escapee.

The officials said that they believed he was still in the region on Friday afternoon.

Deb Ryan, District Attorney said: “At this point there is no proof that someone has assisted him in his escape or helped facilitate it.” We believe that he’s hiding locally, and is all alone.

Ryan stated that investigators believed Cavalcante was heading south.

She said, “We’ll find him in no time at all.”

Call 911 or U.S. The Marshals Tipline can be reached at 1-877-WANTED-2.

Any information leading to Cavalcante’s capture will earn you a reward of $10,000.

West Chester University announced Friday that it had canceled the remaining classes. All buildings require either a WCU-ID or physical keys to gain access.

This decision was made by the university which is located about 6 miles from prison.

All non-essential staff are allowed to work remotely for the rest of the day. Residents of the residence halls receive separate communications with updated information. All students will continue to have access to food services. “Do not forget to bring your WCU ID with you when trying to access all of the buildings,” said the university.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, it happened at around 8:50 am on Thursday.

Cavalcante last walked on Wawaset Road, in Pocopson Township at around 9:40 am.

In just 15 minutes, a jury convicted Cavalcante for the murder of Deborah Brandao at her Schuylkill Township home, where she lived with him since April 2021.

The prosecution said that he was furious because she had planned to reveal a murder case he faces in Brazil. He then stabbed his wife 38 times.

Officials confirm that he’s wanted in connection with a murder committed last year in Brazil.

His depravity is beyond measure. Ryan told a news conference on Thursday that this is someone who has absolutely nothing to gain. I don’t even know what is in his capability. “If he has already committed murder in the open in front of two young children, there’s nothing stopping him.”

On August 22, he was sentenced for life and was waiting to be transferred to a state prison.

Howard Holland, acting warden at the prison, announced Thursday that an investigation into the circumstances of escape is being conducted.

Holland explained that as soon as they realized there was a problem, the staff immediately locked down and conducted a “special count” to verify there was just one missing inmate.

Cavalcante stands at five feet and 120 pounds, with curly black hair that is long and shaggy and brown eyes.

Last seen in a grey shorts and white sneakers with a white shirt. The Brazilian speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Cavalcante’s victim also has family living in Phoenixville. The police have been in touch with the victim’s family.

After Cavalcante killed his former girlfriend, authorities say his family assisted him in fleeing. Investigators warn his family that they will also be prosecuted for helping him.
