Florida officials have announced that four employees of a roofer were arrested for “their alleged participation in deliberately and strategically damaging homeowner’s roofing to submit fraudulent insurance claims to Citizens Property Insurance Corporation”.
As a result of hurricane-related damage, Citizens Insurance is now the last insurer standing in Florida.
Jimmy Patronis, state CFO said: “The bad actors are willing to do anything to get your claim,” Inflating claims and faking damage to roofs is wrong. It’s also a major factor in the rising cost of homeowners insurance for all Floridians.
Investigators found that four Castle Roofing Company employees “conducted a systemic and continuous course of business practice to defraud insurers and homeowners” for a period of one year, starting September 2019.
Citizens became suspicious about Castle’s claims and started an internal investigation of their entire claim.
Insurance company claims revealed a pattern consistent with roof-covering manipulation by humans.
The video also shows Castle workers causing roof damage that was later attributed to wind.
State said that its criminal investigation found former Vice-President of Sales “was allegedly teaching Castle employees how to fabricate roofing damage in order to facilitate fraudulent claims for roofs.”
