Houston Police Department has been on the lookout for several suspects who are suspected to be involved with an organized crime group that targets car thefts in the city.
HPD has also reported the arrests of several people believed to be involved with this group, now disbanded.
According to Troy Finner Police chief, 23 people have been arrested including Max Rodriguez who, according to the police chief, is believed to be the leader of an organized crime group. He was being held under $1.5m bail.
The Galleria and The Heights were the most common areas targeted.
Rodriguez, according to the HPD Robbery Division was caught stealing cars in 2021. After being charged by authorities, Rodriguez organized a crew to steal vehicles.
Rodriguez is accused personally of stealing more than $1,000,000 worth of vehicles and heading the organization which allegedly stole over $10,000,000.
The Theft Department said the vehicles had been resold on digital platforms, such as Facebook Market Place, at a reduced price compared with the market value.
After being released on parole from the theft of vehicles, the defendant accused is accused of participating even in robberies.
Two people are still at large, according to the authorities. Devani Longoria and Adrian Longoria are 18-year-olds and 20-years old respectively.
