Three robberies occurred in Los Lagos during Halloween.
The urbanizations of suburban areas are a favorite place for criminals. They are far away from cities and are less supervised. This allows them to feel at ease. Residents of this area report that their second homes are frequently targeted by thieves.
Los Lagos is one of Ribera’s large urbanisations. Some neighbors claim that they were robbed in their own homes 30 times in just the past year.
The criminals’ actions are clearly visible on the CCTV cameras in some chalets. The men are large, with their heads covered by a hood or gloves to avoid leaving footprints. This makes it hard for police to recognize them even though it is proven that they have committed some of the robberies.
Three robberies took place in Los Lagos on Halloween, when many neighbors were enjoying the party and were not at home. But robberies do not only happen at night or in the afternoon.
One of the victims has explained that this person enters homes to look for jewelry, money or other small items of value which they can conceal in their backpacks and leave immediately. As they are looking for ways to leave quickly, these individuals do not steal household appliances or heavier valuables.
Some times, the thieves have entered the home with the homeowners inside. The family dog alerted the burglars and they fled.
The criminals are not deterred by the CCTV cameras installed in many homes. They simply force open the door and proceed to act without fear.
Police have some images to help identify thieves. The Alginet City Council met with the Lieutenant of the Carlet Civil Guard, and the Commander of the Sueca Post to discuss measures that could be taken to prevent these crimes. Andres Alonso, Alginet Police Councilor reported that one of the initiatives which has been implemented is the control on urbanizations.
The same week, the Private Civil Society of Los Lagos will meet with Elia Ferrer the Mayor of Alginet to discuss the current state of works and the problem of robberies.
