Philip Gardiner who lives on Harold Road said that the floodwaters outside of his flat and those in 23 other blocks in the building were extensive Saturday (4 November) after torrential rainfall hit the city.
The flooding has caused damage to several gas meters located outside of the building.
Philip revealed on Monday, November 6, that his family has been without gas ever since the flooding from Storm Ciaran last Wednesday (1st of November).
“It is a ridiculous situation,” he said. Orbit Housing Association contacted some families on Sunday evening (5 November) and offered them heaters. The flats also flooded.
The water outside kept rising all day Saturday. The water reached 6ft. Fire brigade arrived and could not remove the water because it had nowhere to go.
The floodwaters destroyed the gas and central heating for most residents.
The floodwaters had all been drained by Monday, he added.
Orbit’s spokesperson said that the welfare of their customers was their top priority. Flooding damaged a few gas meters which ultimately affected three pre-payment meters.
We provided fans and assistance to our customers when they reported that their gas meters were malfunctioning. They should contact their own gas providers to fix their meters.
Our team has also visited our customers in order to determine if they require additional support and communicate with them about their specific needs. For those in greatest need, fan heaters were offered as well as the possibility of temporary alternative accommodation. “We are always available to provide additional assistance and we encourage customers to contact us directly if they have any questions or concerns.”
