A large piece of ice fell on a Massachusetts house’s roof Sunday.
The roof of the home was damaged by a large piece of ice that fell out of the sky.
According to Jeff Ilg, and Amelia Rainville, the ice was believed to have come from an aircraft traveling to Boston Logan International Airport. Ilg stated that the family and two children, including the husband and wife, were uninjured when the chunk of ice hit the roof Sunday night. He estimated the weight to be between six and nine kilograms (between 15 and 20 pounds).
At first, the thought was that lightning had struck the house. They heard the debris roll down from the upper roof to a lower one.
The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation.
They found their kids sound asleep despite the noise. Ilg reported that he noticed a large block of ice in the yard and on the roof, along with debris.
He ran to the attic after noticing the hole. He said, “I didn’t know what it was.” He began searching for any damage with a torch, but initially couldn’t locate anything. He noticed the roof hole after his wife had called the police.
Impact on outside was 18″ to 2′ (45 cm to 60 cm) but damage inside is much worse.
Ilg, despite collecting 10 pounds (4 kilograms) in bags of ice, said that there were plenty more to be collected.
