A kitchen fire broke early on Friday night in Derry Township.
Mark Piantine, Chief of the Bradenville Volunteer Fire Department said that emergency responders responded to 5491 route 982 at Peanut around 6:48 pm on Friday 11th August.
Piantine stated that the call was for a fire in the kitchen with someone trapped on a porch. When I arrived, there was a fire in the kitchen. The woman with the cast was standing on the porch.
We moved her until firefighters arrived to put out the flames, and then carried her down the stairs to an ambulance.
Piantine stated that the fire started on the stove and noted “quite some damage”.
He said, “It took over the kitchen and the porch, then came through the window on the side.” Peanut’s waterline was broken, and we were still able to put water on the flames, even though we hit the water hydrant. We had extra tankers ready just in case.
Bradenville VFD was assisted by firefighters from Latrobe and Derry Borough as well as Lloydsville, Lloydsville, Youngstown Whitney as Well as Mutual Aid Ambulance Service.
Firefighters were called to the 700 block East First Avenue, Derry Borough at 10 pm.
Piantine explained, “We had just packed our hoses at the station and washed all our airpacks.” When the call arrived, we were still washing the airpacks on the apron.
Bradenville VFD continued its busy weekend Saturday by having a tanker truck on standby for White Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Export.
A Saturday explosion in Plum’s Rustic ridge neighborhood killed five, one of them a child. It required a large amount of manpower.
